What are the benefits?

Smart grids provide more information than a traditional grid, allowing action to be taken more quickly and effectively in the event of a system failure, helping prevent widespread blackouts. A Smart Grid can also have the capacity for self-supply.
It allows users to have full control of consumption and regulate it. These types of networks provide extensive information about real-time consumption and price to both the utility company and the user, helping users contribute to energy savings.
Smart Grids are capable of integrating renewable energy installations, thereby encouraging the use of clean energy and reducing carbon emissions.

A commitment to decarbonised energy models is expected to continue in the future to mitigate the effects of climate change and initiate the transition to a more sustainable lifestyle.

Many energy companies have already started transitioning to this new energy model. One example is the Spanish utility company Iberdrola, which has announced an investment of 60 billion euros by 2030 to consolidate this energy model.
