Recent posts on our latest news blog have shared various articles looking at tremendous advances in the renewable energy sector, both nationally and internationally. For example, a few days ago we talked about how biosolar roofs can increase the performance of photovoltaic installations. We have also shared information about a new technology called agrovoltaics, a solution that makes the installation of photovoltaic panels compatible in agricultural fields, and other initiatives, such as photovoltaic hybridisation projects in Spain.
These advances show that there is a strong commitment to renewable energy in our country and, although we are far from achieving the levels required to combat the climate crisis, 42% of all energy could come from renewable sources this year. This places Spain among the main clean energy generating countries in the European Union; it is the second largest renewable and wind power generator after Germany.
Energy transition
In recent years, Spain has undergone a rewarding energy transition: dependence on fossil fuels has been progressively reduced and the growth of renewable sources has been driven forward. The year 2022 saw the greatest annual growth in photovoltaic energy in Spain and production has surpassed that of hydroelectric energy although wind energy still leads the renewable technology sector.
Despite these advances, there is still much work to be done if we are to combat the effects of climate change. It is important that we continue to support research into sustainable technologies and to promote greener practices across all sectors. Today’s commitment is only the beginning of the path to a cleaner future.
