We are pleased to share the news that Sofamel has obtained the Carbon Footprint Registration Seal, an achievement that reinforces our on-going commitment to sustainability and transparency.
This award, granted by the Spanish Office for Climate Change (OECC), part of the Ministry of Ecological Transition, recognises Sofamel as an organisation that assesses and reviews its greenhouse gas emissions and is committed to reducing them.
Sofamel now joins the list of registered companies committed to reporting its greenhouse gas emissions and reducing them in all its activities.
What is the Carbon Footprint Register?
The Carbon Footprint Register, created by Royal Decree 163/2014 of 14 March, assesses the efforts of Spanish organisations to calculate and reduce greenhouse gas emissions generated by their activities. In turn, it provides them with the possibility of offsetting all or part of their carbon footprint by means of a series of forestry projects throughout the country. These projects integrate numerous environmental and social benefits including capturing and storing atmospheric carbon dioxide, also known as carbon sequestration.
All the footprints in the register must have an accompanying reduction scheme and are checked prior to registration. Organisations are recognised as having reduced their footprint when they have met strict criteria that demonstrate a trend of decreasing emissions.
In order for an offset to be recognised in the framework of the Registry, the CO2 acquired must come from projects registered in the Registry.
