Promoting renewable energy and achieving carbon neutrality is one of the main objectives of the Iberdrola group, a Spanish brand that is a pioneer of both the energy transition and the development of clean energy generation projects around the world.

Have you heard of its latest project,
Vineyard Wind 1? This exciting venture is a large-scale offshore wind farm, located in the state of Massachusetts (USA).

Offshore Wind Energy

The installation of offshore wind farms has been on the increase in recent years as these installations have certain advantages over onshore wind power, mainly as they make use of unused space. Offshore wind farms can be used where the construction of large wind farms is not permitted on land, expanding the possibilities for harnessing wind resources and taking advantage of areas that would otherwise be unused.

Offshore wind farms can generate electricity on a constant basis as offshore winds are stronger and more constant in comparison with those onshore.

Vineyard Wind 1 in figures

This project, led by Iberdrola in conjunction with Avangrid Renewables, is expected to generate 800 MW of electricity and power 400,000 homes.

This will save more than 1.6 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions per year, which is equivalent to removing 325,000 vehicles from the roads and a saving of $3.77 million in energy costs.
